ERLKING: A New Musical

“ERLKING” has become the definitive shift in confirming what I want to create as an artist. Socially aware theater that is just as entertaining as it is scathing in its humorous ribbing. In addition, there are so many wonderful, quirky and interesting instruments out there with a catalogue of history behind them…why not create a piece that showcases them while still being contemporary? The show itself is a commentary on the human inclination to become ignorant to others suffering, or to willfully exploit it. Hence the whole show is framed around “Lei DoubrInska,” the Oopsy Doopsy Play which retells the events of the the past year in which the play is set. Of course everything unravels and comedy ensues, however I cannot wait to create merchandise that has the words “Oopsy Doopsy So Unaware” plastered on the front.

The Killing Jar

"The Killing Jar" in many ways plays off of that dichotomy of emotions as it is the culmination of five years of living/studying in America during a time of great social upheaval. I witnessed a lot of cruel and ill informed opinions being brandished like swords to be used in some kind of competition of "one-upmanship"...As I came head to head with a growing number of confusing and bizarre conflicts with individuals at my school, I became lost as to what to say, what think. Eventually I did have a thought. What would happen if this ideal that people clung to so dearly was exploited by someone for monetary gain? What if the thing you are fighting against infects you without even realizing it? These are the thoughts that I explored with "The Killing Jar" and I hope you find the material as interesting as I enjoyed making it.
